Sunday 3 September saw the sailors take a day away from the race course to hold the International Six Metre Association AGM, where important decisions about class management, future event dates and locations, and technical matters were made. Later in the day Race Officer Peter Saxton hosted a skipper’s briefing to update the teams on the race committee’s intentions for the regatta and answer any questions they had.

The day concluded with a delightful Welcome Reception hosted on the Royal Yacht Squadron lawn in the presence of His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain, where the competitors, their friends and families enjoyed delicious champagne and canapés, caught up with old friends and made new ones, and looked forward to an exiting championship to come, all set against a spectacular Solent sunset.

This morning, Monday 4 September, we have glorious sunshine and a good breeze, with a forecast for 12 to 17 knots from the east-south-east so the teams are already on the dock and preparing to go afloat in time for the scheduled 11:30 first start.
